It’s been a dark couple of years, globally, so it’s no wonder the hottest trend to hit the design world is Dopamine Décor. Anyone who took a women’s study class and read “The Yellow Wallpaper” knows the effect the colors that surround you can have. But instead of spiraling down into the depths of psychosis like in that famous short story, Dopamine Décor is all about bright color and pattern combinations meant to stimulate the good vibes.
Dopamine is the neurotransmitter that makes us feel pleasure. In décor, it’s all about creating an uplifting vibe in pattern, color, art and furniture choices. Bright colors are replacing the neutral palettes. We all need that extra hit these days. It’s bright, it’s bold, and it’s everywhere you look right now.
We featured Bushwick-based furniture designer, Sophie Colle, as a VIF in 2021, and think she’s got this vibe nailed. Her sunny loft is a wonderland of bright pinks and black & white checkerboard, plants and bold shapes. Shop her Friends picks here to add some of this to your living space.
You can also find our very own Dopamine Décor collection here. The Rainbow Pillar Candle will not only bring the good vibes to your home with the bold rainbow pattern, but the light it casts also will affect those dopamine levels.
This design style is all about being over the top while also creating an environment that brings up your mood as you cozy down. It’s energetic and dynamic and makes you excited to be in the moment. Plants! Patterns! Pinks! Wavy wiggle moments, inset shapes and aesthetic feels...
We’re living for it at Friends NYC.
