Friends NYC loves to cross pollinate the good vibes in the neighborhood, so we couldn’t be more excited about this new collab with our neighbors and friends at Stems Brooklyn! If you’re unfamiliar with Stems, they are an eco-conscious florist located on Knickerbocker Ave. They strive toward sustainability in all aspects of their business, which is something we should all be seriously moving towards. Together, we’ve created a couple of cuties you can sport and support yet another awesome company working hard for Mother Earth called BK ROT.

BK ROT is New York City's first community-supported, bike-powered, fossil fuel free food waste hauling and composting service. The project is staffed by young people of color who haul residential and commercial organic waste and transform it into high quality compost. The operations provide accessible jobs and sustained professional development for emerging environmental leaders.
From their website, we learned they have diverted 936,000 lbs. of food waste, and that BK ROT youth have created 427,000 lbs. of high quality compost. This has all been done with emission free hauling (that comes out to 4,500 bike miles!) and has generated $210,000 in income for young workers. Read more about what they are up to on their website.
