We love Farm To People! Emma and I have been using this CSA grocery delivery service for many years. Suddenly, due to COVID these local farm fresh ingredients have become an amazing resource for us. FTP delivers select veggies, proteins, and pantry items to your door with an extremely short supply chain, making it a convenient and safe way to get your groceries during this crazy and uncertain time. It's also an excellent way to support farmers and their families.
Farm To People sources their food from an assortment or farms and local makers including Brooklyn Grange, Four & Twenty Blackbirds and The Meathook. Also check out this handy guide to washing your veggies. Below is a recipe for a plate of Shrimp, Mushrooms, Kale and Grits that we recently made in Quarantine, all ingredients came from FTP. Enjoy!
Shrimp
10 Shrimp
1/2 Onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, diced
Paprika
EVOO, Salt and Pepper
Add EVOO to pan over medium heat, saute garlic for 60 seconds till fragrant, add onions and some salt and saute till onions are translucent. Add Shrimp and cook for about 6/7 minutes total till pink. Add paprika, salt and pepper. DONE!
Mushrooms
Oyster Mushrooms, sliced
2 Cloves Garlic, diced
Butter
Salt and Pepper
Boy oh boy do we all love mushrooms around here. With fresh mushrooms you need to do very little to them to make them taste great. Add butter over medium heat and let butter melt, then add garlic till fragrant. Add mushrooms and toss and let cook down. Wait to add salt till the shrooms are half cooked, adding the salt releases the mushrooms natural water and if you do this too soon they can be rubbery. DONE!
Kale
Kale, shredded
Garlic, dice
Onion, diced
Chicken or veggie stock
EVOO, salt and pepper
I left out the quantity because it will depend on how much you are cooking. Start again with a medium heat and EVOO, add garlic till fragrant, add onions and some salt, cook till onions are translucent. Add kale and stock, mix and cover to let steam. Once its wilty you are DONE!
Cheesy Rice Grits
1 cup grits
2 cups stock or water
2 cloves garlic, minced
Grated Parmesan
EVOO, salt and pepper
In a pan over medium heat add EVOO, once hot add garlic and saute 30 seconds. Add grits and saute about 2 mins, then add liquid, turn up the heat until simmering. Turn heat low and simmer till water is absorbed about 15 mins. Add cheese at the end and stir in. DONE and ENJOY!
Keep it tasty,
