At Friends we love field trips! Last week we headed out to Industry City to shoot in front of the freshly painted Camille Walala building. Walala is a super fun, unique and inspiring artist. She's originally from France but has lived in London since 1997. She studied Textile Design at the University of Brighton and launched her London based design studio in 2009. Her influences include the Memphis Movement, the Ndebele tribe and Op-Art. Her textile design work broadened to include interior design, art direction and cool collabs with brands like Nintendo. She's now known for her large scale, site specific installations that she executes all over the world. It's inspiring to see a contemporary female artist doing large-scale work that has so much impact. What I love about her Industry City building is that it faces the water on the East River and is super visible as you sail into NYC. Our shoot was on a 100 degree day in July, and you may not be able to tell, but we were literally melting. It was totally worth though and a really fun adventure.
