If you know us at Friends NYC, you know we love a good novelty food item. Founders Mary & Emma are always in search of that IYKYK feeling when making product discoveries, and in this case something unique to bring to the literal table. The spaghetti candle and the baguette candle continue to be some of our most popular items at Friends NYC. So, let us light up your life with our cute Italian candles because that’s amore!
We’ve gotten so much love for our unique candles, we want to share what others are saying.
Refinery 29 featured the baguette candle in their piece “10 Coo Coo Crazy Candles That Make Great (Not Boring) Gifts.” What they say: “This baguette candle is perfect for your gluten-free loved one. They get the buttery glazed crust and beautifully baked loaf but absolutely zero gluten (or real bread).” Buon appetito no matter what your dietary restrictions may be!
Architectural Digest also can’t get enough of the weird wax baguette. This article titled "9 Pieces of Bread Art that Live in My Head Rent Free" shares how Emma and Mary found this Italian candlemaker at a trade show in Paris. “The conversation between art and commercial objects is a relationship I appreciate,” Emma says. “It makes capitalism a little less of a nightmare.” So far, Friends has sold about 200 baguette candles since stocking them in October 2020 and the demand has only increased.
And finally, Apartmenttherapy.com listed the baguette candle as their third favorite in an article titled, "This Candle Trend is a Little Kitschy But I Can Make You a Believer," and suggested it would be a great centerpiece for your next dinner party. We couldn’t agree more. Who are you breaking bread with these days? Time to bring it to the next level.
The New York Post marked us as one of “Six truly cool Brooklyn small businesses to shop this holiday.” They say, “The clever stocking stuffers and quirky gifts at this Bushwick emporium will please everyone on your list, from your Gen-Z cousin who loves crystals to your wacky aunt.” And they especially gave big love to the spaghetti candle! It wasn’t quite Page 6, but we’re still super honored to be seen for what we do.
And finally, on Hypebeast, Mary and Emma teamed up with the photographer Alistair Matthews, to create an editorial that reflects the store’s vision and overall festive spirit. Check out the whole spread with the spaghetti, the baguette, and even a stick of butter ornament!
We love our fun and funky candle collection, and hope you’ll get on board for these items that Emma and Mary source from all over the world and make available to you at Friends NYC.
